What is Muscular Tension?
A excessive muscle tension is both a reaction to stress and a source of stress . Since the fight or flight syndrome is a manifestation muscle under the effects of prolonged stress, we tend to weaken our muscles . A stressful event or simply think or imagine anything that triggers stress, unconsciously prepares our body for action.
The recurrence of such thoughts creates permanent situations to which the body adapts to maintain a state of chronic stress . A stressful situation, real or imagined, causes not only an immediate reaction to stress, but it also leaves a residue of tension in the body . As the stress builds up, the tension increases during the day. The inability to dissipate the residual stress, which adds additional stressors, causes super autonomic nervous system activity, creating a vicious circle emotion-action.
Among the most common include chronic fatigue, pain tension headaches, joint contractures and muscle spasms , limited mobility and flexibility, the tendency to muscle injuries, insomnia, a variety of gastrointestinal diseases, urinary problems and many others.
